PROGRAMS
The George Washington Carver OUTDOOR SCHOOL, Inc. is a non-profit, tax exempt, community based, health promotion, environmental awareness enrichment program that provides a variety of relevant, wholesome, and affordable outdoor experiences for youth, ages 7 - 17.

Our organization includes teachers, health professionals, environmental educators with over 40 years of camping experience.

Year-round outdoor activities include: community service projects, day trips, environmental hikes, weekend campouts, and a weeklong residential summer camp. We do both cabin and tent camping.

Special Programs
We are available to serve our youth at anytime. If your school, church or community organization has an interest in outdoor programs, environmental education, and/or cultural camping, we can tailor a program to fit your needs and interests.

The OUTDOOR SCHOOL specializes in providing relevant, affordable outdoor experience for youth 7-17 years old. We also offer training for adults interested in diversity training, cultural oriented environmental programs and etc.

The Explorer Program
This is a year-round, health and environmental enrichment program. These after school and weekend programs designed for elementary and middle school children between 7 and 12 years of age.

Teaching modules are presented as hands on, interactive games and projects; field trips are taken to further reinforce the learning experience. Project Wild, Project Wet, and Project Learning Tree activities; in addition, other environmental, health and community oriented programs are utilized.

Potential program sites can include schools, neighborhood centers and churches.

Pathfinders
This year-round program involves high school students who express an interest in the environmental and/or natural sciences. Parental participation is required. The program meets two (2) times a month and one weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday, depending on the activity) a month. Students are involved in a variety of community service, cultural and personal development programs and activities.

As a part of their training program, Pathfinders serve as junior counselors for the Spring Environmental Camp, Adventure Weekends and Summer Mini-Camp. In addition, successful participation in the Pathfinders makes them eligible to participate in the annual Wilderness Weekend (backpacking trip) and Heritage Weekend.

The Pathfinder program is an excellent way for high school students to earn the community service hours needed to satisfy their graduation requirement.

Adult Environmental Education
Members of our “team” are certified by Project Learning Tree and the National Wildlife Federation to teach their nationally acclaimed environmental education programs. In addition, we offer training in culturally adapted outdoor programs, such as the Dogon Star Watch, the Underground Railroad and the Dr. George Washington Carver Nature Series. These programs are conducted by a “team” that has over 40 years of camping experience.
